A quick review of the Dusty String “String Buttons”. These are something Dusty Strings came out with in 2021 as a way to make putting on a new string easy. The button acts both as a guide for tying the knot AND as the string anchor.
A student sent me some when they first were released and I’ve enjoyed having a few on hand. I continue to use the standard string know, but on occasions where I have a very short length of string, the button is the best way I know of tying a knot. using the least amount of string.
You can learn more about the button on the Dusty Strings page: https://manufacturing.dustystrings.com/products/string-buttons
If you’re looking for alternatives, hat-tip to Balfour Knight – he mentioned in a harp column post that guitars already have something similar, search for “guitar string beads”. Could be worth trying if you don’t have access to string buttons?? (If you do try, I’d love to hear your experience).
